LeCoultre Master Mariner

A captain’s watch by JLC.

1958 was the year that marked JLC’s 125 years of existence, and a new model was introduced to celebrate; the Master Mariner. This was the first serious waterproof watch JLC brought on the market. This watch was available in stainless steel but in gold as well. However, it’s depth-rating was nothing like the one of a submariner, nor did it display more than the date and time. It will not come as a surprise that this watch was destined for the captains of ships rather than divers.

The Master Mariner you’re looking at is from 1963, on the dial LeCoultre. This name was used for watches destined for the United States market. This watch has an attractive overall vintage look, especially with the applied indices surrounding the dial. Equipped with caliber 881, a chronometer movement from JLC itself, introduced in 1961. A trusted beater!

So looking for a vintage watch with a dressy look and a ‘seaworthy’ history, this is your catch!
