Christiaan van der Klaauw Planeto Astrolabium
Christiaan van der Klaauw is a well-known and respected Dutch watchmaker. However, some might not know that he also was a fanatic clockmaker. Many of which had tremendous amounts of expert-level complications many even astronomical, as this is conceived to be the specialty of Mr. Van der Klaauw.
This clock is called Planeto Astrolabium, which is a real collector’s item! The production of this clock started in the year 1990. Mr. Van der Klaauw originally planned to make 50 examples of the Planeto Astrolabium however, they eventually only produced 42 examples, and ‘surprise surprise’ we have the number 42, which we think gives a little extra to this clock.
When you look at the Planeto Astrolabium, you can see that the clock has four sides which all have their own separate dial and the function that goes with them. The so said first dial of the Planeto Astrolabium displays the time, date, and month, the second dial indicates the number of the week, the year, and the Astrolabium, the third dial shows a map of the stars of the southern hemisphere, and finally, the fourth and final dial shows a map of the stars of the northern hemisphere.
All in all, this clock features so many delights of complicated watchmaking that it absolutely belongs at the top of the art.
This specific clock was built in 1993 and the body of the clock is executed gold plated brass, with both the handsets and the four atlas figures being silver, and to top it all the sphere on top of the watch follows the golden ratio.
