Omega Seamaster 300 Ref. 2913-3

The Omega Seamaster 300 CK2913-3 stands as a testament to horological innovation and timeless design. Introduced in 1957, this model was crafted for both professional and amateur divers, showcasing Omega’s commitment to precision and reliability in challenging environments. Even if your CK2913-3 has a missing bezel, it remains a highly valued piece among collectors and enthusiasts.

Part of Omega’s legendary 1957 Trilogy, the CK2913-3 was launched alongside the Speedmaster CK2915 and the Railmaster CK2914. These watches have collectively left an indelible mark on the world of watchmaking. The Seamaster 300 CK2913-3, designed for divers, set the standard for underwater timepieces with its robust 39mm stainless steel case and a bi-directional rotating bezel made of bakelite. Though fragile and often missing in vintage models, the bezel was an essential feature. Despite this, the watch retains its large triangular hour markers and broad arrow hands, both luminescent for underwater visibility.

The Omega Caliber 501 automatic movement powers the CK2913-3, renowned for its accuracy and reliability, which bolstered Omega’s reputation in the mid-20th century. Initially rated for 200 meters (660 feet) of water resistance, this watch was designed for serious underwater use, highlighting Omega’s engineering prowess. The hesalite crystal, a type of durable acrylic, enhanced the watch’s suitability for diving with its resistance to shattering.

Part of the 1957 Trilogy, the Seamaster 300 was joined by the Speedmaster CK2915, famous
as the “Moonwatch” for its role in space exploration, and the Railmaster CK2914, designed for professionals exposed to strong magnetic fields. These three models underscore Omega’s innovative spirit and dedication to creating reliable, stylish timepieces.

Even with a missing bezel, the CK2913-3 is a highly sought-after collector’s item. Its rarity and historical significance make it a prized possession for vintage watch enthusiasts. The Seamaster 300 CK2913-3 offers a glimpse into the golden era of watchmaking, capturing the essence of Omega’s pioneering design and enduring legacy.
Owning an Omega Seamaster 300 CK2913-3 is like holding a piece of history. This watch continues to captivate collectors with its classic design and historical importance. As part of Omega’s 1957 Trilogy, it showcases Omega’s dedication to producing timepieces that stand the test of time, blending reliability with a timeless aesthetic. For those passionate about the rich heritage of dive watches, the CK2913-3 remains an unparalleled treasure.

Backstory

The Omega Seamaster was introduced in 1948 and is, as such, the longest continuously running line within Omega’s catalogue. While these early Seamasters might look like dress-watches by today’s standards, their unique selling point was the use of an O-ring gasket between the case and the screw-in caseback. This development, taken from Submarine innovation during WWII, provided the watches with waterproofing that is anything but dressy. A major upgrade over older lead and shellac alternatives.

In 1955, a Seamaster was taken to a record depth of 62,5 meters by diver Gordon McLean, off the coast of Australia. Note that this is still before it took on the archetypal form-factor of a dive watch in 1957, with Ref. CK2913. Since then, models with and without divetime bezels have co-existed within the Omega Seamaster collection.

1950’s And 1960’s non-divetime-bezel Seamasters offer amazing value within today’s vintage market. Despite their modest diameter, they tend to have great wrist presence due to sporty, beefy cases. Countless variations exist, from rare curtain-dial double-signed Seamasters to fancy lugs and cross-hair dials. Great finishing and quality movements ensure these are still awesome everyday watches today. Since they were produced in relatively large numbers, a good example does not break the bank like some technically and historically lesser watches do.

The vintage diving Seamasters, such as the Ref. CK2913, Milspec Seamaster 300 or the famous PloProf, have become highly sought-after and collectible.

It is impossible to write about the Omega Seamaster without mentioning James Bond. When Pierce Brosnan took on the role of British super spy in 1995’s Goldeneye, a tricked-out quartz Seamaster diver was on his wrist. Different Seamasters have featured in all Bond-franchise films since. There was even a sly dig at Omega’s biggest rivals in Casino Royale when a James Bond/Vesper Lynd conversation went: “Rolex?” “Omega.” “Beautiful!”  Oh snap!

The Omega Seamaster collection has everything you could want from a watch. The history, the significance, the quality and the sheer variety. From simpler versions that present massive value, to highly collectible and extremely rare examples. A cool, understated look with an adventurous undertone. We love them!
