Tudor Mini -Sub Ref. 79090
Here we have a very cool Tudor Mini Sub
This is where Tudor shines. As Rolex’s sister brand, it traces a lot of Rolex’s steps. Every now and then, though, Tudor has a little bit more creative freedom than its older sibling. The smaller Submariners are prime examples. Where the Rolex Submariner is only available in 40 mm (and now 41), the Tudor Submariner is available in several sizes. This is the 33mm variant. Great for women who love the rugged style, but prefer a more manageable size.
This example comes with a black dial with beautiful off-white tritium plots. The acrylic bezel inlay only adds to the vintage character, even though this watch only dates back to the nineties.

When Rolex itself was still an up-and-coming brand, its founder Hans Wilsdorf envisioned a sister brand that would allow him to release more affordable watches. As an avid Anglophile, Wilsdorf named his new brand Tudor, and registered the company in 1926.
The recipe was simple: The high quality cases and bracelets from Rolex, fitted with off-the-shelf movements, allowing for a lower price point. This is why you will often find Tudor watches with Rolex logos all over the case back and bracelet. They weren’t just the same design, they were the same actual parts.
From the 1960’s onwards, Tudor was adopted by several armed forces, among which the US Navy and the French Marine Nationale. Their elite troops were outfitted with rugged Tudor Submariners. These are now highly collectible and are fast approaching Rolex Subs in price. Something you will not find anywhere in Rolex’s catalogues is the lady-size Submariner; a Tudor exclusive.
You will find many models within Tudor’s line-up that share a lot of their platform with Rolex. There are, however, models that are unique to Tudor only. The current collection shares no parts with its crowned sibling, but you will also find vintage Tudors with completely unique aesthetics.
So whether you are after a slight variation on the familiar Rolex designs or something completely different, Tudor has got you covered. It is one of those brands that are quickly becoming more and more appreciated by aficionados. And for good reason. There is a whole lot to love here!
