Rolex Explorer Ref. 5500
Vintage in its purest form.
A bit smaller than the family member of ref 1016. The Rolex Explorer Ref. 5500 was produced approximately from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. This reference was previously known as the Air-King, but Rolex added an Explorer dial. And so a 34 mm sports watch was born. Frequently sold in NAAF stores on military bases. However, reasonable numbers have also been sold to civilians by Rolex dealers.
Here is an example that really has and radiates a beautiful history. The dial has stood the test of time, not without traces. But that also makes it so vintage, also called patina. Bundled with a steel Rivited Oyster bracelet in good condition, slightly younger than the watch but certainly appropriate for the decades of production.
A real addition to a vintage watch collection.
