Concord Delerium Marine 18K

Concord might not be the most famous name in watchmaking. It was, however, at the forefront of luxury Quartz watches in the late 1970s and 1980s. And with the major 1980s revival in fashion and music, no wonder that Concord is coming back into focus.

The watch we have here is from the Delirium line, labelled as such because it was “so thin that it would cause a delirium in however took a good look at it”. And indeed, at time of introduction in 1979, this was the thinnest wrist watch ever produced. How thin? Two millimetres thin!

Later updates would be made even thinner, up to a mere 1,5mm. Of course, Piaget managed to squeeze a mechanical movement into a 2mm watch in 2018, but this Concord held the crown for Quartz watches in 1979, and nothing will ever change that.

No matter how thin watches got later on, this Delirium is still exceptional to behold. Its rectangular case flawlessly blends with the integrated mesh bracelet. The dial is so shallow that the hands have just the bare minimum of headspace to rotate. It is all part of an impressive effort in creating ever thinner watches.

This historically significant watch proves that Quartz technology is nothing to scoff at. It has its place within the world of horology. And here we offer the opportunity to own a record-breaking watch, including its original box.
