A man named Gerald Genta played an interesting role in this time period. In 1972 he designed the Royal Oak for Audemars Piguet, which was an instant success. Patek didn’t want to miss the train in this new watch trend, and so they struck a deal with again, designer Gerald Genta. He designed the Nautilus, a luxury ‘divers’ watch and this model have become the most popular and desired model since its introduction.

In the beginning, there was just a relatively big men’s model in stainless steel. Later on, smaller versions emerged on the market, also with the option for precious metals.
