IWC Ingenieur ref. 666
Understatement is part of the family tradition.
The Ingenieur is not about complications, no such things as a moon phase or chronograph. It is about its simplicity, telling time in a robust, classic design. A slogan from about 1958: ‘For the man who expects the impossible from his watch’. This sentence says it all.
Look at this beauty from about 1956, with the ‘dagger’ hands and applique markers. The grainy light champagne dial cased in steel gives the sporty and classic look at ones. We took the liberty to put it on a suede dark brown leather strap from our private label. It makes the dial pop. ( we think…;))
The famous Ingenieur logo of the arrow passing through the name is reminiscent of the Swiss thunderbolt icon that warns of an electrical current’s presence. In this case, the thunderbolt was chosen to represent the Ingenieur’s anti-magnetic properties, i.e. the ability of its special soft iron shield construction to protect the watch against magnetic fields. The logo makes the watch easy to identify from other IWC automatics of the period and gives the watch its joie de vivre.
